Fenitur postponed for September after political crisis in Nicaragua
The International Tourism Fair Nicaragua includes negotiations between wholesalers and exhibitors and the promotion of tour packages
The International Tourism Fair Nicaragua 2018 (Fenitur), to be held on June 8 and 9, has been rescheduled for September, hoping that by then the sociopolitical crisis facing the country has been overcome, said Lucy Valenti, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur).
This year would be the seventh edition of Fenitur, one of the most important events developed by Canatur with the support of the Nicaraguan Tourism Board (Intur). This fair is for Nicaraguan companies that usually cannot participate in international fairs, which includes negotiations between wholesalers and exhibitors on the first day; and the second day is open to the public with the promotion of tour packages for Nicaraguans and residents.
"We postponed the fair for the month of September, we had it for June 8 and 9, but the conditions are not right now to do it, there is the warning from the United States and many of the wholesalers we were bringing are from the United States , and many of them decided not to travel due to the travel warning, so taking this in consideration, we decided to postpone it to the month of September, hoping that by that date the conditions would be better, that the dialogue would have started and that this warning would have been removed, said Lucy Valenti, Presindent of Nicaragua Chamber of Tourism.
Valenti also quoted that hotels and restaurants have also been canceling and rescheduling events, as the situation prevents tourism activities from being carried out at the same pace as before the demonstrations.
At the International Fair of Tourism Nicaragua 2018 (Fenitur) the participation of the Spanish airline Iberia was expected, which announced since last year that it would begin operations in Managua as of October 2018.
